K2K_20.DK Help File
Loading in the file K2K_20.DK will setup Band-In-A-Box
for the Kurzweil K2000/R Synthesizer. It will setup:
1. Drum #Æs for the Kurzweil K2000/R.
2. Patch Map (assigned to factory settings of the Kurzweil
K2000/R).
3. Startup Patches and Channels in the MIDI Settings
Window.
Thanks to Band-In-A-Box user Peter Buick for uploading
these .dk and .doc files. His comments follow:
Introduction:
This profile is very much a "quick start" concept.
Your Kurzweil K2000 has many more banks of sounds than
the ones we were allowed to use to create this profile (only
factory patches 0-127) and rest assured - the factory presets
are only a minute indication of the sound power of the
machine. It is IMPERATIVE that you experiment and change
your original factory sounds, as you will then derive 1000%
more pleasure - if that were possible !?
You will also have enormous fun changing the
sounds yourself manually and creating all sorts of new and
varied textures, whilst learning the potential of your machine.
Setting up the K2000/R:
1) The factory default channel for the drums is MIDI
channel 1. You must MANUALLY set channel 1 to patch 64
- Real Drums. If you have changed the original drum channel
you can reset it by going to the Master page and setting the
DRUM CHAN to 1 (using the cursor keys to get there and the
"+-" increment keys to change the value).
Then ensure the following are set under the MIDI
page:
2) Under MIDI/Receive, make sure that the patch
change type (PchgType) is set to "0-127" and that MIDImode
is "Multi".
3) Under MIDI/Transmit, make sure that Channel is
set to 1 and that Control is set to "MIDI" (local off) (or
"Both" (local on)).
4) Under MIDI/Channels, make sure that for each
Part (selected with the Up/Down Chan/Bank buttons) that
Program change is enabled ie Enable is "on" and PrgLock is
"off". You may also manually set the volume and panning for
each Part here.
5) On the Effects page, change to FX Mode to
"Master" and FX Channel to "None" and then select the
global effect type and effect balance (for all of the sounds)
that you would like also on this page.
6) Ensure you are on Part 5, so that changing the
sounds locally will work on the Thru channel of BIAB.
RESTORING the factory sounds:
Note that these sounds were selected assuming a
software version of 1.3 or 2.07 and the factory defaults being
present. You can reset your K2000 back to its factory state by
selecting the MASTER/delete page, selecting the 0-99 and
100-199 banks and selecting OK. NOTE you will lose any
edits, new sounds or songs in the 0-99 and 100-199 banks,
unless they are saved to disk.
Sound design:
We were only allowed to use the factory sounds
available in locations 1-127, which obviously meant that
some sounds were not strictly available, whilst some others
were not considered suitable. We have chosen the closest
generic version where possible. We hope you enjoy our
selection, but of course it is very easy to change them
yourself.
If the General MIDI standard is that important to
you, it is worth remembering that Kurzweil do a GM disk
(including the missing samples - so you'll need some sample
RAM) for $19.95. It is available from your dealer or via the
user groups below, who also have additional sounds and
products available.
